The Vredefort structure is currently regarded the biggest and oldest clearly visible impact structure on Earth. Figure 2 shows how the Vredefort crater formed. The meteorite exploded in a fireball as hot as 20 000 °C and brighter than the Sun. This blasted rock, dust and melted rock into the air but also pressed the rock underneaththe crater violently downwards for a short time. When this rock bounced back a few minutes later, it formed the Vredefort Dome. The crater was formed over 2 billion years ago, when a meteor hit earth.

Journey to Vredefort Crater Here you can take a long journey to Vredefort Crater, a place impacted by the most ancient of meteors, to find the rumoured Interstellar Remnants. Tales of shooting stars frequently falling in that region seem to be true.

God said the world is young, and so the young-earth model is consistent with God’s Word. So the truth is the opposite of what this critic claims: if the crater is millions of years old, then God has lied to us in His direct propositional revelation (facts about things) in Scripture .

The rocks of the Witwatersrand Basin, Ventersdorp Lava, Ghaap Dolomite, and Pretoria Subgroup were originally deposited in a nearly horizontal position but were folded and deformed by the impact. Vredefort-krateret er det største bekreftede meteorittkrateret på jorda.
